You have probably heard that it only takes 21 days to build a habit. Let’s be honest. That is completely wrong. Most of the time it will take longer to build a habit. There can’t possibly be a time line that will be accurate for everyone out there because we are all different. A more likely and much more accurate thing to say would be that we can all build habits but it takes a variable amount of time.

So let’s discuss one way to help you build habits.

Creating new habits by building them into already existing habits is a very effective way to move forward. For example, if you grab a cup of coffee first thing every morning, put a glass of water beside the coffee maker the night before so you know you need to drink that cup of water before you drink your coffee. If you want to workout first thing in the morning put your workout clothes out the night before in your bathroom or wherever you go right after you wake up.

The theory behind it is that when you work a new habit into an existing one, it will come to you much more naturally. Try it out!
