Powerful substances are things in your life that need some kind of accountability. They are substances that, when they get out of control, can really harm you. They are perfectly fine within their moderate limits but can have a terrible effect on you if you have too much.

Some powerful substances are sugar, caffeine, and alcohol. Now let’s be honest, all of these substances have their places. We all know that in excess they can be very damaging to your body though. For instance, did you know that too much sugar to turn your liver into a fatty liver…the same way alcohol can? Too much sugar can cause short term memory loss as well. Those are just some of the more excessive internal issues with it. There is also weight gain which can lead to diabetes, heart issues and an overall increase in stress to your body. Caffeine in excess can cause anxiety, insomnia, digestive issues, muscle breakdown, frequent urination and urgency, fatigue, rapid heart rate, and more. Alcohol in excess can cause high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, liver disease and digestive problems as well as many different forms of cancer.

Sugar in moderation can be enjoyed in a random dessert, marinade or cocktail.

Caffeine in moderation can give you a nice little pep in your step first thing in the morning, or can help get you through an especially long work day.

Alcohol in moderation can be enjoyed with friends around a dinner table, campfire or at a party.

Every one of these can be a perfectly healthy part of your lifestyle if you will respect their boundaries.
